This latest publication from the Sinderesis School brings together a series of articles under the umbrella theme The Metamorphosis of West Africa, a critical issue we focused on during the 2024–2025 academic year. In West Africa in particular, a profound demographic shift is taking place, one that cannot be explained simply as the result of poorly managed migration. Strategies for international cooperation cannot ignore the difficulties arising from the uprisings in Françafrique, the growing role of Russia and China as major players in the region, and the heavy burden of inherited public debt. With the guidance of qualified experts, this book offers an in-depth understanding of the various contributing factors— geopolitical, economic-financial, religious-cultural, and logistical— shaping these migratory flows. Our inspiration comes from the Christian tradition’s enduring attention to the human person—his or her value and dignity—that continues to echo in the heartfelt appeals of Leo XIV for a “disarming and disarmed peace” in so many places torn apart by conflict.
