The Italian Society for Experimental Biology (Società Italiana di Biologia Sperimentale – S.I.B.S.) is an ancient scientific society claiming a prestigious tradition and including among its members the Nobel Laureates Rita Levi Montalcini and Kary Mullis. As from its formation (1925), the Society played a significant role in the development of the biomedical sciences, promoting the scientific production and supporting the collaboration between different research groups. Thanks to the organization of annual congresses and to the recent reactivation of some regional sections, the SIBS goes on to perform its function insuring the interdisciplinary approach to date absolutely essential to reach a better understanding and solution of main biological and bioethical problems that are to date current topics. The Society awards an annual prize to the best biological PhD thesis. Journal of Biological Research – Bollettino della Società Italiana di Biologia Sperimentale is the official journal of the SIBS, edited since 1925; it publishes the papers presented and discussed during the regional meetings of the SIBS sections as well as during the annual congresses of the Society. The papers are presented and are pre-accepted by the Regional Presidents after the evaluation of the coherence with the aims and scope of the journal. The Peer-review process by external reviewers is then carried out. Since the journal is aimed at a general biological and medical readership, it welcomes papers dealing with any aspect of the experimental biological and biomedical research. Papers concerning clinical topics can be accepted only if they include experimental laboratory data. Original communications, review articles or short communications may be submitted. The aim of the journal is to study all aspects of the biology, biochemistry, physiology, pathology, ecology, etc. of all living beings, including humans.
